Blindness is inability to see. Likewise, Color Blindness is the inability to see colors. There are tiny 6-7 million cones on our retina. These cones are divided into red, green and blue providing our eyes color sensitivity, thus enabling us to see colors.
Causes
Color Blindness is caused primarily because of the cone abnormalities.
Types of Color Blindness
There are generally two major underlying causes of Color Blindness – inherited and acquired.
Inherited Color Blindness is divided into monochromacy, dichromacy and anomalous trichromacy.
People with Monochromatic Color Blindness have a completely black, gray and white world, just like those black and white movies of the 50s.
Dichoromats can tell some colors from others. There are two kinds of dichromatic color blindness. Red-Green blindness and blue-yellow blindness.
Anomalous Trichomats are able to distinguish colors better than dichromats yet still color blind.
Treatment
Unfortunately there is no cure for inherited color blindness. Acquired color blindness can be cured by treating the underlying cause of it.
