Yoga plays a significant role in promoting eye health. A daily routine of yoga, complete with pranayama, asanas and meditation helps in attaining peace and tranquility. Yogic eye exercises strengthen the eye muscles and thus help in healing many ailments involving the eyes.
Yoga therapy plays a key role in the treating myopia and other refractive disorders, besides contributing to the maintanence of eyesight and general eye health. In this regard, yogic exercises involving extra ocular muscles help relieve the strain or tension on these muscles in order to overcome defective vision. Specific eye exercises are proved to completely rectify eye disorders. With yoga, ‘eye-health conscious’ people start treating their eyes with great care, which results in a good eye health.
The eye exercises suggested below are helpful in improving eye health.
Sun treatment: Gaze at the rising sun early morning until the rays emerge. But do not stare at the hot or emerging sun.
Swing: Stand erect, with feet apart and face the sun. Keep the hands relaxed. close your eyes and sway your body gently from lefy to right. The sun, since it is a source of energy, tones up and improves the functioning of all six eye muscles and increases the blood circulation to the eye.
Palming: Sit in a comfortable position with both eyes closed, relaxed. Rub both palms together and cover each eye with a palm avoiding pressure on the eyeballs. Do not allow light to pass through. This exercise is recommended to be practised for at least two or three minutes. This is one of the best eye exercises which helps remove myopia, tension and fatigue. Regular practice of this exercise improves eyesight. This highly benefits the eye muscles and the optic nerves.
