Must Know About “Black Eye”

Posted on October 29, 2008 in Latest News

A black eye is a condition caused when someone punches really hard on the eye. As the name suggests the area around the eye turns black. It is very essential that one refer to a doctor immediately when punched on the eye as in most cases the area around the eye called the “orbit” is fractured and leaving it unattended can cause blood and fluid to seep into the facial muscles leading to facial congestion.

Another consequence of a black eye is  “double vision”. Sometimes trapping of an eye muscle in the orbit can also cause a black eye.

In order to reduce the severity of this condition one should apply ice over the eye for 15 minutes every hour at least for 24 hours. However, care should be taken to see that the individual does not press the eye too hard.

Also, it would be best if the individual would avoid straining the eye for some time till the eye is healed.
