There are a number of diseases that can affect our eye. Here, is a list that will help you get informed about most of them:
- Cataracts: It is clouding of the eye which is treated by surgery. Occurs in old age. This can be reduced if one uses an UV protected goggles regularly.
- Color Vision Deficiency : This is the inability to distinguish between two colors. There can be no cure for this disease.
- Diabetic Retinopathy: This is caused by both Type I and Type II diabetes. This causes leaky blood vessels which can be sealed by a laser treatment.
- External Eye Diseases: Conjunctivitis, cold allergies and corneal abrasion are some of the most common external eye disease. These are generally cured in a matter of days by eye drops, patching etc.
- Macular Degeneration: Macula is a part of the retina which might get affected. This generally occurs after 50.
- Myopia: This is near sightedness. This can be corrected with glasses, contact lenses and in some cases refractive surgeries.
- Ocular Tumors: This is a malignant cancer that can blind you and spread to other parts of the body as well. Symptoms are blurred or distorted vision. It is more common in people above 60.
- Strabismus: When any one or more muscles out of the six in our eyes stop working the condition arises. It is very common in children and leads to crossed-eyedness or squinting. Has to be operated and need some weeks to recover.
- Uveitis: When any part of the uveal tract is infected it is known as uveitis. It is caused by any kind of trauma. It can be treated by medication.
