In some developing countries improper diet can be a cause behind blindness. The unavailability of vitamins from the diet can be severe for the eyes. This article would speak on same Eye Vitamins.
Vitamins for Better Eye Health
Vitamins A, C and D are the most essential for eyes. The following would tell all about that:
- Vitamin A: Dryness in eyes, xerophthalmia, swollen eyelids and corneal ulcers are caused due to deficiency of Vitamin A. All of these could lead to blindness. Sources of Vitamin A are: cod liver oil, fish, green leafy vegetables and vegetables containing beta carotene like carrots and beets. Excessive intake of Vitamin A during pregnancy may lead to birth defects in the child. Night blindness and macular degeneration can be totally kept at bay with proper Vitamin A intake. Beta-carotene is turned into Vitamin A by our bodies.
- Vitamin C: This vitamin is helpful in age related vision problems. The sources of Vitamin C are: tomatoes, grapes, potatoes, spinach, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, citrus fruits, strawberries, guavas, plums, mango, pumpkins and red and yellow peppers. Surgery can be avoided and the incidence of cataract can be delayed by a whole decade if a person gets his daily dose of Vitamin C right.
- Vitamin E: Vitamin E can be helpful in preventing cataracts. Sources of Vitamin E are nuts, mangoes and legumes.
It is best to have all fruits, vegetables in the right portions. Never forget to take peppers and tomatoes regularly and also the glass of milk.
