Chalazion are the lumps which are caused along the sides of the eyelids. These are usually larger than the stye and not painful too. These are more common in adults than in children.
Chalazion are defined as the swollen portions on either the upper or the lower lid of the eyes. These are caused either due to bacterial or viral infection which inflamed the glands of the lid. These may be soft , fluid filled or harder sacs.
Causes Of Chalazion:
The Causes of Chalazion can be summarized as:
- Poor hygiene of the eyelid
- Rosacea acne
- Blepharitis which becomes very chronic
- High concentrations of blood lipid.
- Immunodeficiency
- Viral infection
Apart from the above mentioned caused one major cause which can be one of the reasons for causing the disease can be the blockage in the oil glands. Actually the glands which produce oil gets blocked due to some or the other reason, so the oil can not come out but the gland still produce oil. This results in the swelling of the gland which can be seen as a lump on the eyelid.
Symptoms Of Chalazion:
The signs and symptoms of the Chalazion are:
- Swelling is noticed on the upper eyelid of the eyes. Lower eyelid usually suffers from this disease.
- It is a hard lump which can grow very big up to 8 inches due to the collection of the oil in the gland.
- Redness in the eyes and the eyelids will be there but pain is not much.
- In severe cases the swelling can interrupt the vision process also.
