Iritis is the condition which causes inflammation in the iris layer of the eye. The cause of this condition to occur is not yet known but some genetic disorder or any kind of disease in any other part of the body can result in this condition to appear.
The layer of iris in the eye is the colored layer which is made up of a muscular ring with a central hole known as pupil. Iris is responsible for regulating the amount of light entering by dilating and contracting the pupil. People suffering from Iritis feel pain in bright light due to the movement of the pupil.
Causes Of Iritis:
The actual cause for this condition to appear is not yet known but some of the causes which can contribute in the generation of this disease are:
- Autoimmune Disease: Some kind of autoimmune diseases like Reiter’s syndrome, sarcoidosis, arthritis etc. can result in this disease.
- Eye Problems: Any kind of infection in the eye or a scratch in cornea or ulcer formation in eye can result in such conditions.
- Ocular Autoimmune Disorder: It is the condition in which the immune system of the body attacks the iris layer of the eyes. The reason why this happens is not known this can also result in Iritis to occur.
Symptoms Of Iritis:
The symptoms of Iritis includes:
- Eyes become watery
- Redness in the eyes
- Eyes become sensitive to light
- Eyes becomes painful
- Vision turns blurred
- Pupil will either become small or gets distorted.
- This condition appears in one single eye only.
